Dearly beloved friends:
It is with great pleasure that I send you this engraving entitled…
…THE TREE OF THE SEPHIROTH
Dear readers:
Through Gnosis we have come to know, within the doctrinaire Kabbalah, what we Gnostics call the Sephirotic Tree represents to us, with all the unfoldments that emerge from it and that correspond to various most sacred parts of our Being.
However, it is interesting to know that this was already being commented on within the esoteric schools of 1617 among the Rosicrucians and Freemasons of that time. This engraving appears in the second volume of a work entitled Utriusque cosmi maioris scilicet et minoris Metaphysica, Physica atque technica Historia. This volume was written by the English mystic Robert Fludd.
We will quote again Joscelyn Godwin, who comments in her book the following:
The tree of the Sephiroth.
In Fludd’s particular interpretation of the traditional Sephiroth tree, placing the ten emanations on each side of a central trunk where TETRAGRAMMATON is written […]
Each Sephira receives its Hebrew name, its Latin translation, the name corresponding to God, and, in some cases, the trinitarian interpretation. Of great interest to Fludd is the emanation of Malkuth, from which sprout ten branches – they look like palm leaves – which in turn bear the names of the Sephiroth. They are paired with the traditional Christian names of the nine orders of angels—Cherubim, Dominations, Virtues, Archangels, Seraphim, Angels, Principalities, Powers, and Thrones—and “Soul” —animas— corresponds to the second Malkuth. Thus, the supreme tree of God’s names is reflected in the angelic hierarchy supporting the theory of universal correspondence.
It looks like a tree with its roots at the top ─where the first Sephiroth, the Crown, the Kether is located─ and its foliage at the bottom ─the crown of the tree formed by the ten palm leaves─.
Entering into the matter that interests us, let us begin by interpreting what this divine tree wants to indicate to us.
On the trunk of the tree appear some Hebrew letters that Gnostically synthesize the name of the Eternal Father, here they are below:
י Ie ה ho ו va ה: Iod He Vau He is understood here.
The different branches are as follows:
Sephiroth 1.
Ehieh Pater: This word alludes to the EIAEHEIE, which we sing at the end of our invocation of Solomon.
Cheter. Corona Radix Arboris Sephi: This Sephiroth is the very root of the sacred tree, the origin of the All.
Sephiroth 2.
Iah יהוה filius: Represents the Son, the Chrestos, called in Hebrew Hochma or Chokmah.
Hochma. Sapientia Ramus 1: The attribute of this Sephiroth is wisdom or sapience.
Sephiroth 3.
Elohim אלהים Sp. Sanctum: Representation of the Holy Spirit.
Binah. Prudentia Intelligentia Ram 2: Sephiroth 3, also called Binah, indicative of divine prudence or intelligence.
Sephiroth 4.
א ל El Pater: The Intimate, Atman.
Chesed. Clementia Bonitas Ram 3: Its attribute is mercy, kindness.
Sephiroth 5.
Elohim gibor filius.
Geburah. Potestas Severitas Ram 4: The quality of divine rigor. Geburah in the Hebrew language, the severity of the BEING.
Sephiroth 6.
Eloah. Spi. Sanc: Holy Spirit, grace, beauty.
Tipherets. Gratia Pulchritudo Ram 5: Sephiroth 6, Tiphereth, divine grace, pulchritude. Branch 5.
Sephiroth 7.
Iehova Sabaoth.
Netzeth. Triumphus victoria Ram 6: Represents Netzach, victory, triumph.
Sephiroth 8.
Elohim Sabaoth.
Hod. Laus Honor Formositas Ram 7: Almighty God, Sephiroth HOD, praise, honor, beauty.
Sephiroth 9.
Elchai vel. Sadai omnipotens: Shaddai, omnipotence.
Iesod. Basis Redemtio Ramus 8: YESOD, redemption, for human redemption is in the ninth Sephiroth —sex—.
Sephiroth 10.
Adonai.
Malcuth. Regnum Imperium Ram 9: THE KINGDOM, the physical world, the physical body.
In this Kabbalah, the correspondence of each Sephiroth with a divine state was made. In this way, these states or degrees were distributed as follows:
Hochma in cherub. Cherubim, established in the sphere of Chokmah.
Chesed in Dominat. Dominations, established in Chesed.
Tepherets in Virtutes. Virtudes, in the zone of Tiphereth.
Hod in Archangel. Hod, sphere of the Archangels.
Cheter in Seraph. Kether, area of the Seraphim.
Malcuth in Animas. Malkuth, place of the souls in general.
Iesod in Angelos. Jesod or Yesod, place of the Angels.
Netzeth in Princip. Netzach, where the Principalities are located.
Geburah in Potest. Geburah, place of the Powers.
Binah in Thronos. Binah, sphere of Thrones.
In the sphere of Malkuth we find enclosed the word Adonai, which in the Hebrew language means ‘the Lord, the BEING’.
En la esfera de Malkuth encontramos encerrada la palabra Adonai, la cual traduce en lengua hebrea ‘el Señor, el SER’.
Now it only remains for me to give you a few sentences that luckily come to us so as to be reflected upon:
“The judge must have the book of the Law in his hand and understanding in his heart.”
Bacon
“All virtues are included in justice. If you are just, you are a good man.”
Theognis
“The mercy of kings is to do justice; the justice of kings is to exercise mercy.”
María Leckzinska
“The main advantage of justice and good faith is to render force useless.”
Plutarch
“The just man is not the one who does not commit any injustice, but the one who, although he could be unjust, does not want to be so.”
Menander
NON SUM QUALIS ERAM.
