It goes back about two thousand years in time. The one who speaks in this poem is the divine SOPHIA, the soul that was sent from the AIN and that, having fallen, seeks to return to its origins. Hence, she herself questions her destiny.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>I was sent forth from the power,<br \/>\nand I have come to those who reflect upon me,<br \/>\nand I have been found among those who seek after me.<br \/>\nLook upon me, you who reflect upon me,<br \/>\nand you who listen, listen to me.<br \/>\nYou who are waiting for me, take me to you.<br \/>\nAnd do not banish me from your sight.<br \/>\nAnd do not make your voice hate me, nor your hearing.<br \/>\nDo not ignore me anywhere or at any time. <br \/>\nBe on your guard!<br \/>\nDo not ignore me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For I am the first and the last.<br \/>\nI am the honored one and the scorned one.<br \/>\nI am the whore and the holy one.<br \/>\nI am the wife and the virgin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am the mother and the daughter.<br \/>\nI am the limbs of my mother.<br \/>\nI am the barren one<br \/>\nand many are her sons.<br \/>\nI am she whose wedding is great,<br \/>\nand I have not taken a husband.<br \/>\nI am the midwife and she who does not bear.<br \/>\nI am the solace of my labor pains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am the bride and the bridegroom,<br \/>\nand it is my husband who begot me.<br \/>\nI am the mother of my father<br \/>\nand the sister of my husband<br \/>\nand he is my offspring.<br \/>\nI am the slave of him who prepared me.<br \/>\nI am the ruler of my offspring,<br \/>\nbut he is the one who begot me before the time of the birth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And he is my offspring in due time,<br \/>\nand my power is from him.<br \/>\nI am the staff of his power in his youth,<br \/>\nand he is the rod of my old age.<br \/>\nAnd whatever he wills happens to me.<br \/>\nI am the silence that is incomprehensible<br \/>\nand the idea whose remembrance is frequent.<br \/>\nI am the voice whose sound is manifold<br \/>\nand the word whose appearance is multiple.<br \/>\nI am the utterance of my name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>Why do those who hate me love me,<br \/>\nand those who love me hate me?<br \/>\nThose who disavow me, confess to me<br \/>\nand those who confess to me disavow me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those who tell the truth about me, lie about me,<br \/>\nand those who have lied about me, have told the truth about me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those who know me, are ignorant of me,<br \/>\nand those who have not known me, know me.<br \/>\nFor I am knowledge and ignorance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am shame and boldness.<br \/>\nI am shameless; I am ashamed.<br \/>\nI am strength and I am fear.<br \/>\nI am war and peace.<br \/>\nGive heed to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am the one who is disgraced and the great one.<br \/>\nGive heed to my poverty and my wealth.<br \/>\nDo not be arrogant to me when I am cast out upon the earth,<br \/>\nand you will find me in those that are to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And do not look upon me on the dung-heap<br \/>\nnor go and leave me cast out,<br \/>\nand you will find me in the kingdoms.<br \/>\nAnd do not look upon me when I am cast out among those who<br \/>\nhave fallen into disgrace and in the most remote places,<br \/>\nand do not cast me out among those who are to be slain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>But I, I am compassionate and I am cruel.<br \/>\nBe on your guard!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do not hate my obedience<br \/>\nand do not love my self-control.<br \/>\nIn my weakness, do not forsake me,<br \/>\nand do not be afraid of my power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why do you despise my fear<br \/>\nand curse my pride?<br \/>\nI am she who exists in all fears<br \/>\nand strength in trembling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am she who is weak,<br \/>\nand I am well in a pleasant place.<br \/>\nI am unconscious and I am wise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why have you hated me in your counsels?<br \/>\nFor I shall be silent among those who are silent,<br \/>\nand I shall appear and speak.<br \/>\nWhy then have you hated me, you Greeks?<br \/>\nBecause I am a barbarian among the barbarians?<br \/>\nFor I am the wisdom of the Greeks<br \/>\nand the knowledge of the barbarians.<br \/>\nI am the judgement of the Greeks and of the barbarians.<br \/>\nI am the one whose image is great in Egypt<br \/>\nand the one who has no image among the barbarians.<br \/>\nI am the one who has been hated everywhere<br \/>\nand who has been loved everywhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am the one whom they call Life,<br \/>\nand you have called me Death.<br \/>\nI am the one whom they call Law,<br \/>\nand you have called me Chaos.<br \/>\nI am the one whom you have pursued,<br \/>\nand I am the one whom you have seized.<br \/>\nI am the one whom you have feared,<br \/>\nand you have gathered me together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am the one before whom you have been ashamed,<br \/>\nand you have been shameless to me.<br \/>\nI am she who does not keep the holy days,<br \/>\nand I am she whose holy days are many.<br \/>\nI, I am godless,<br \/>\nand I am the one whose God is great.<br \/>\nI am the one whom you have reflected upon,<br \/>\nand you have scorned me.<br \/>\nI am incomprehensible,<br \/>\nand they have learnt from me.<br \/>\nI am the one that you have despised,<br \/>\nand you reflect upon appear,<br \/>\nI myself will hide from you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>[\u2026]<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>I am the knowledge of my inquiry,<br \/>\nand the finding of those who seek after me,<br \/>\nand the answer of those who ask for me,<br \/>\nand the power of the powers in my knowledge<br \/>\nof the angels, who have been sent at my word,<br \/>\nand of gods in their seasons by my counsel,<br \/>\nand of spirits of every man who exists with me,<br \/>\nand of women who dwell within me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am the one who is honored, and who is praised,<br \/>\nand who is despised scornfully.<br \/>\nI am peace,<br \/>\nand war has come because of me.<br \/>\nI am a foreigner and a citizen.<br \/>\nI am the substance and the one who has no substance.<br \/>\nThose who are not with me are ignorant of me,<br \/>\nand those who are in my substance are the ones who know me.<br \/>\nThose who are close to me have been ignorant of me,<br \/>\nand those who are far away from me are the ones who have known me.<br \/>\nOn the day when I am close to you, you are far away from me,<br \/>\nand on the day when I am far away from you, I am by your side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[\u2026]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am the control and the uncontrollable.<br \/>\nI am the union and the dissolution.<br \/>\nI am permanence and I am impermanence.<br \/>\nI am the one below,<br \/>\nand they come upon me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am the judgment and the acquittal.<br \/>\nI, I am sinless,<br \/>\nand the root of sin derives from me.<br \/>\nI am apparent lust,<br \/>\nand chastity dwells in me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am the voice attainable by everyone<br \/>\nand the speech which cannot be grasped.<br \/>\nI am a mute who does not speak,<br \/>\nand great is the multitude of my words.<br \/>\nHear me in gentleness, and learn from my roughness.<br \/>\nI am she who cries out,<br \/>\nand I am cast forth upon the face of the earth.<br \/>\nI prepare the bread and in it I enclose my soul.<br \/>\nI am the knowledge of my name.<br \/>\nI am the one who cries out,<br \/>\nand I listen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[\u2026]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You who are vanquished, judge them who vanquish you<br \/>\nbefore they judge you,<br \/>\nbecause the judge and partiality exist in you.<br \/>\nIf you are condemned by this one, who will acquit you?<br \/>\nOr, if you are acquitted by him, who will be able to detain you?<br \/>\nFor what is inside of you is what is outside of you,<br \/>\nand the one who fashions you on the outside<br \/>\nis the one who shaped the inside of you.<br \/>\nAnd what you see outside of you, you see inside of you;<br \/>\nit is invisible and it is your garment.<br \/>\nListen to me, you who listen<br \/>\nand learn from my words, you who know me.<br \/>\nI am the voice that is attainable to everyone.<br \/>\nI am the speech that cannot be grasped.<br \/>\nI am the name of the sound<br \/>\nand the sound of the name.<br \/>\nI am the sign of the letter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[\u2026]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And I will speak his name.<br \/>\nLook then at his words<br \/>\nand all the writings which have been completed.<br \/>\nGive heed then, you who listen<br \/>\nand you also, the angels and those who have been sent,<br \/>\nand you spirits who have arisen from the dead.<br \/>\nFor I am the one who alone exists,<br \/>\nand I have no one who will judge me.<br \/>\nFor many are the pleasant forms of sin which exist,<br \/>\nand incontinences,<br \/>\nand disgraceful passions,<br \/>\nand fleeting pleasures,<br \/>\nwhich men embrace until they become sober<br \/>\nand go up to their resting place.<br \/>\nAnd they will find me there,<br \/>\nand they will live there,<br \/>\nand they will not die
